BABYLON: 500CE

Often called the cradle of civilization, the land between modern day Iraq’s Tigris and Euphrates Rivers has known many names. But no matter who was in power, it was always Babylonia to the Jews. Babylonia was the first major center of Jewish life outside of Israel, the place where generations of great rabbis wrote the Talmud, led the Jewish diaspora, and produced a thousand years of scholarship.
